It looks like Sony may be announcing another studio acquisition soon – if a tweet to PlayStation Japan is accurate.
Earlier today, PlayStation Japan Twitter tweeted "Welcome to the family" about Sony's acquisition of Housemarque. The image attached to deleted tweet showed the Bluepoint Game logo instead of Housemarque (thanks, Gematsu).
This has led many to believe that Sony also acquired the remake of Dark Souls developer Bluepoint. The image in question was shown in other PlayStation Studios games such as Returnal, Days Gone, The Last of Us Part 2, with Soul Demons mixed in with the bunch.
Another "welcome family" image was tweeted by Sony earlier about the Housemarque news, not showing Demon Souls included in other games.
This may have been a mistake on the part of Sony Japan – or they announced the news a bit earlier than planned.
Either way, we'll wait for Sony to confirm or deny the news to find out for sure. We will update this post with any further information when it comes.
Rumbling regarding an acquisition of Bluepoint Games has been circulating on the internet since last fall, and again in February when it was said it was not a matter of whether ”Sony would take the studio to jail, but“ when. ”
Bluepoint has a history with Sony, with remaster games such as God of War and God of War 2 for the God of War Collection, the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Flower, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection that includes Uncharted 1-3, and Gravity Rush.
It is also the studio responsible for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
The PlayStation Japan post may have inadvertently leaked an acquisition of Bluepoint Games that first appeared on VG247.
